Dan I know that you do not want to make any changes before the release of 2.0 but I have realised that one change is Very much needed.
New users, and also magazine reviewers, place great importance on gedcom import/export to evaluate a new program. The import works well but the option on the File Export menu is not the one that should be generally used. I was trying to think where it is needed now as it seems to be only useful for providing a text based file which is probably only useful for import into other versions of GenoPro. If this is the case it belongs on the Tools menu; xml export provides a text based file.
Midnight mulling came up with 3 options
1 Remove the link completely. Not a great idea as this is the logical place where users would expect to find the link = and who wants to RTFM?
2 My first thought was that the file export to gedcom would take you into the Report Generator with the correct skin selected. This would be extreme hand holding, which for beginners is no bad thing. It would be a good idea - for beginners - if the pre-existing skin were stored and restored on exit.
3 My last thought, which on reflection has many advantages, is for the file export link to produce a message box along the following lines
"The Gedcom export has been moved to the Report Generator. Select 'Generate Report' from the Tools menu and on the next menu choose the 'Export to Gedcom' skin. This also allows you to set Privacy options and also export all, or a selected GenoMap"
I have seen several magazine articles where a poor experience with Gedcom import/export has lead to a significant downgrading in the review. Ron's solution works well but is not easily found by the inexperienced user. OK reviewers should be experienced but let's be kind and say they are rushed.

Thanks for the suggestion. What I can do is add a new menuitem "Export to Gedcom via the Report Generator".

| Will this replace the 'Export to Gedcom Format...'? If this is still needed, could it be placed below 'Convert Gedcom to HTML' in the Tools menu and labeled 'Create GenoPro Gedcom'?

Both menuitems will be there. In the future, we will improve our internal Gedcom export module (and also the Gedcom import module).

The new menu item is an improvement. But thinking of problems reported by users of this forum, who ought to be more aware than a new user, is it possible to
1 Add a tooltip to the new menu item 'Select Gedcom Skin'
2 Expand the message box on the 'Export to Gedcom' option. At present it refers to Unicode but could be expanded to say what this Gedcom export produces. If my understanding is correct, at present, ie v.2, the main use is for transfer between various versions of GenoPro. If this is correct then this should be the first comment on the message box. The problem is that first time users will think that 'Export to Gedcom....' is the preferred course.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am aware of this, however I don't want to change the Report Generator dialog in case of creating bugs. This will be fixed after releasing GenoPro 2.0.
