Hi there,

I've been researching my family tree and using GenoPro to document it. I really enjoy using the software and have began exploring it and using some "advanced" features like hyperlinks between sheets, etc. I really enjoy using the software.

I would, however, like to have different methods of reporting. The standard report generates a full website, I have see a shareware tool Ancestral Author which generates a FANTASTIC document. That's what I'd like to get from GenoPro - a Word type document rather than a web based one.

I've also seen other genealogy documents with the layout a1, a2, a3, b1, etc (example: http://www.e-family.co.za/Meintjes/BookV10.pdf).

Is there any way I could create a custom report that would do this for me? or is there one available somewhere?

Regards,

Tony De Buys

If you are familiar with VBScript or JScript then you can use GenoPro's Report Generator to wirite you own custom skin to achieve this. This however is not a simple task for such complex reports! See GenoPro Report Generator SDK for more details. The recent GenoPro newsletter has an article on writing a simple report.

I have recently started writing a 'book style' descendants Report skin that will produce something similar to Ancestral Author. However this will not be available for a month or two and initial releases may not have all the features you desire e.g. pictures.

Hi there and thanks for that reply.

I saw that newsletter and tried my hand at it... I broke it really bad...

Can I offer to be a beta tester of your report?
I can live without pictures for now as my tree does not have any yet...

Thank you.

Just keep an eye on this forum. My Report skin will be posted here when it is ready for beta testing.

If you can not wait for a Reporting have a look at GenealogyJ from http://sourceforge.net/projects/genj/
This will import a gedcom and produce a variety of views and reports. Freeware.

I have not explored in detail but it might be useful. It has the ability to produce Google maps but you need an API key as described elsewhere by Ron

The OP request on this thread is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for too.  I have tried to use the recommended freeware but after 30 mins I am still getting error messages and empty txt files as my report!!.  I dont have time for writing my own reporting VP program with the GenoPro SDK so will have to look elsewhere.  Sounds like I will have to use some other genology software.  Frustrating!!

UPDATE:So I googled "gedcom reporting" and one of the first links was "The Complete Geneology Reporter" by Nigel Bufton at http://www.tcgr.bufton.org/  It is sharware with a proper installation procedure and support website, you can evaluate for 30 days and then register, and I presume, pay.  Ive used it for 15 mins and it does almost exactly what I wanted so I like it. It produces txt file, pdf or html, but not a word doc.  Hope this is of use to people.

While the genealogyJ stuff works and generates a narrative report like I wanted it caused some issues in my family... It lists engagements and affairs as marriages!!! (serious problem!) there are also other issues with it that require me to edit quite a bit of the report to get it to resemble a "human readable" document.

I would really like to see the GenoPro "version" completed as it will rely on the information from GenoPro and I feel would give a "proper" version of the narrative.

Will try the shareware app, but will DEFINITELY look out for the real thing here!

Regards
