How do I display a comment AND a birth/death date?  When using the Display icon on the toolbar only a comment OR a birth/death date can be displayed.

I also have a need to display places of birth, marriage and death in a GenoGram (not in the report) and it would be nice to be able to do so just by selecting an option in the display menu.  Right now these options are mutually exclusive.  I believe it would be better to be able to combine (some of) them.

Whenever I go "in the field" doing some research work, I'm carrying loads of genealogy documentation with me.  In this case it's easy to find some info back.  Otherwise I always have a few single sheets of paper in my case with the most important things I need to investigate or remember.  Part of one of these sheets looks as follows:

I make these by copying a GenoMap to another (work & test) GenoGram and clipping away the parts that are of no interest to me at that moment.  Most of the time this results in a simple bloodline.  After printing it, I have to add places of birth, marriage and death by hand.  I could use the custom tag option to do this but this implies reentering the same date for each individual needed on the printout.

It would be much easier if GenoPro would allow to select the extra data to be printed on the GenoGram printouts.  I have seen several requests for this feature in other topics as well.

I already have a table-like report which I use to double check data, but I find the GenoGram format much easier to use when doing research and having to explain relations and links to other people.

Again, the ideal solution (for me) would be to just select part of a genogram, select the appropriate display options and print it.

But maybe this ain't as easy as it sounds.  Thanks for considering.

I agree with you.  One window that was designed was for the genogram with checkboxes to let the user pick which fields to display.  This dialog is working on a private build, however the checkboxes are not working, however you can get the idea of how it could work.

Hmm.  I was more thinking along the lines of occasional settings just before or at the moment of printing.  This would remove the need for editing each individual's characteristics one by one, having to click the same boxes for each of them and having to reset them afterwards again one by one if you did not work on a copy.

What about a change in the display or print options menu(s)?

Right now you can only click on one of these at the time and listing all possible combinations is just impossible.

Replacing this by a pop-up form which would allow multiple options to be checked could do the trick.  I understand this might also imply some changes to (auto-) arrange, but I believe it's worthwhile looking at.

How do I display a comment AND a birth/death date?

At present the best way is to use Ron's XML toolkit (a Report skin) and create a custom tag. This can be set to show birth/death dates and can then be edited in the Table to add comments.
Not the long term solution Dan has outlined but it will work now.
If you run the Toolkit again you can create another custom tag which only shows the dates (select a different name for the tag). However I am not sure that is really useful as you would probably have to rearrange the Genogram to create space for the comment

I can live with that!

I have to admit I was confused by the idea that a skin could only generate a (html) report.

Nice work.  Thanks for the XML Toolkit.
