I am using GP1.91b. When I click on a person in the tree, it creates small squares around that person's box. When I try to move that person, the link can grow like Medusa's hair.

I know I just created a single line i.e. from the parent link I requested a new son. However, when I click on the son to move him, it looks like multiple links. They are not, but it is a painful experience to move a person and then get the link to look neat and tidy again.

I know I must be doing something wrong, I just not not figure what.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Can you include a screenshot?  By the way, I strongly recommend to upgrade to the latest beta at http://www.genopro.com/beta/.  The beta has GenoMaps to split your tree into smaller sub-trees.  You will find easier to manage smaller trees and move individuals around using the Beta.

How do I make a screen shot?

I downloaded and installed the latest beta. My tree looks awful in the beta version. The connecting lines are different weights, the information on people has changed. Well, not changed, but in my original tree in 1.91, I only show first names, no marriages, nothing extraneous. Now everything shows, am I going to have to go in to each person and change the information that appears? I'm not a happy camper if that is the case.

I would make smaller trees by selecting each family unit, and pasting it in a new tree. It worked just fine. So unless this beta does something magical, I am less than impressed.

I know my original tree has not disappeared. I can get it back by opening the non-beta
. I also took the precaution of copying the old tree to a different drive.

I'd like to learn the beta, so first step is how do you want me to make a screen shot. Normally I'd just press alt Print Screen and paste the result. However, it creates a pretty large file. Is there a better way?

How do I make a screen shot?

Hold down the Alt key while pressing the Print Screen.  This action will capture the current window rather than the full screen.  Then, use IrfanView (www.IrfanView.com) to save to a PNG file.

The connecting lines are different weights

In the Beta, each size has a different line weight.  GenoPro 1.x had 3 line thickness for the 5 sizes (tiny, small, medium, large and extra-large).  The beta has 5 line thickness, one for each size.

No.  You can display the display attributes of multiple selected individuals in a single mouse click.  Use Ctrl+A to select all the individuals and press Enter to bring the property dialog.  You will see the Display dialog where you can change how the name is displayed.

I would make smaller trees by selecting each family unit, and pasting it in a new tree. It worked just fine. So unless this beta does something magical, I am less than impressed.

GenoPro has a tool to move to a different GenoMap.  Right-click on your selection and you will see the menu Move to GenoMap.

If you're using MS Office, you have an MS Photo Editor were you can simply use "Paste as new image" option. I beleive that function PrtScrn copies image to copy/paste cache so you can paste it in any program that can use such an option.

The keyboard button Print Screen copies the image from the video card (screen) and stores it to the Windows clipboard in a bitmap format.  Any program supporting the bitmap format (Paint, IrfanView, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) can paste the screen shot.

I have uploaded the attachment. It is called Tree.png.

If you can open it, you will see what I mean by the "different" line weight. When I wrote that originally I did not mean 1.91 only had 3 lines and beta has 5. I meant a single line was thick at one point and thin at another. I understand that the name label is causing the different line thickness. How do I cure that short of moving all the symbols below down?

Also, on my tree using 1.91, there were no marriage date labels, if you look at William Gray/Hyunna Um, there is a marriage date. When you look at Beth Edwards, it reads Beth Single. In 1.91 it was just Beth. How do I fix without doing each individual?

The global replace (ALT A > enter )allows me to change all the name entries. However, I only show first names of direct decendentsdecedentsnames to partners. If I change the way that is set up, I am concerned that direct decendentsdecedentsude last names as well. Personally, I find that makes the tree appear cluttered. Any workaround?

This is just the answer for the problems with the lines, which is actually not a problem. The individual is just too close to the marriage line and is background of the name label is covering the line. Move the individual up a little bit and your problem will be solved.
